Scrapghan

What does everyone do with all those left over bits of yarn from a project? I save mine.

I’m making a scrapghan out of them. If the scrap is at least 2 feet long it gets balled up and tossed in a bag. Once that bag is full I grab 2 random balls, put them together and start crocheting. When one runs out, I just grab another one. It may take awhile to finish, but it will have a little piece of each project I’ve made in it.

New project bags

I ordered my friend a matching set of crochet bags for Christmas. I love the colour combination of embroidery with the black and white bag.

Thirtyones new catalogue starts on February first. I’m trying to decide if I should wait and get a new pattern or if I should order one that is retiring. The struggle is real!!

I just love having a matching bag and accessory pouch to carry my WIPs in.

It’s a New Year!!

2017 has officially started!! Anyone make any resolutions that they plan on sticking to? Mine is to post here regularly…I’m going to try my best to keep this one.

So my first post of the year is going to show off some of the very popular Messy Bun Hats. These babies work up so quickly. About 2 hours to be exact. Mine were made with Red Heart Unforgettable in various colours. Love how they all turned out. Here’s a peek…Can’t wait to whip up some more, I keep selling out of them. Until next time, stay warm hookers.

Winter is on it’s way

Looks like winter is finally about to make an appearance. The temperature has dropped steadily for the past few days with a storm expected to rear its ugly head tomorrow evening. They’re expecting around 15-20cm of snow.

Luckily I just finished whipping up some warm scarves with the gorgeous Caron Cakes. This yarn is 20% wool and 80% acrylic, and amazingly soft. It has such a wonderful drape to it. They say to hand wash and lay flat to dry. Not going to lie, I popped my scarf in the wash on delicate and then in the dryer. I’m not sure how it’s possible but it came out even softer. Now to make a few more in different colours…

C2C vs Single Crochet

So I have always done my graphghans using the C2C method. I decided that I would try a simple (and I do mean simple) graph using SC to see what it was like.

I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s exactly the same concept…using bobbins to carry yarn and so forth. I actually find it more difficult for some unknown reason. Maybe it’s because the first graph I ever did was C2C…maybe I would feel differently if I had done it the other way first.

After my little practice piece I’ve decided that I will be doing an actual graph that way just to get more of a feel for it. Wish me luck!!

Happy Hooking.

Pumpkin came early…

How many of you have heard of a temperature blanket? It’s a pretty cool concept. You assign different colours for different temperatures, then you crochet a row a day using the temperature. Some people are doing highs, some lows, some are even doing both! I’m doing simple single crochets for mine according to the heigh. Some people are even making a granny square per day. I’ve seen some pretty amazing blankets so far. We’ve had an unseasonably warm winter and I didn’t expect to use my pumpkin colour for another few weeks…but I’m not complaining. I used Caron Simply Soft as it gave me the widest range of colours for my area. I think I’ll be calling this the El NiƱo blanket

Chicken, and I won

Nothing like playing chicken with your yarn when trying to finish a blanket. Luckily I won this round with a little over an inch to spear (insert sigh of relief here lol)

All that’s left to do is wash and block and find it the right owner.

Happy Sunday to all my fellow hookers. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Marshmallow Winter?

After warmer than usual temperatures it has finally decided to cool off again. It seems that Mother Nature just can’t make up her mind.

I guess that means it’s a perfect time to try out the Marshmallow Stitch with some Bernat Blanket Yarn. I must say that I am loving how quickly this is working up. I’m making it single bed size and I’m 3/4 of the way done in just 2 evening. I’m sure I’ll be finishing up tomorrow. Perfect for a weekend project. Hopefully you are all staying warm and have something on your hooks.

Another Monday

It’s a dreary day here…a perfect day to drink coffee and crochet!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I finished up a Harry Potter baby blanket. It’s adorable if I do say so myself.

I have to give credit to CraftyRidgeDesigns for designing an abosoulutly fun and adorable CAL. Without her, this wouldn’t have been possible. Take a peek at her blog, you can find all the Potter graphs there.

Happy Hooking
